from Phantom Solids by Gilles Deles

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Lunt is Gilles Deles’s musical alter-ego, working on a wide range of experimental projects, as a songwriter, sound engineer, invisible theoretician and co-founder of French-based label We Are Unique! Records, and more recently a video maker for Melatonine and King Kong Was A Cat. He is also a psychoanalyst with clinical practice and a philosopher, two fields he can never separate from his musical activities. Musical creation processes are a playground for immanent conceptual makings, because without these elements music eventually loses its very ground.

Lunt's new album introduces a novel blend of sound textures - beyond the steep, if not coarse reliefs of the guitar saturations and feedback, often lies the softer, more delicate layer of the glockenspiel. So what is at stake no longer is sheer violence nor pure sweetness - one does not work without the other. Soft as snow, but warm inside.

The two other prevailing elements of the record are Lunt's vocals and percussion. But they merely are both sides of the same coin - here stubborn and hammered, there peaceful and uncannily serene. Metaphor lovers will call this album a bed for a fakir. You do not need to be a masochistic listener to enjoy it, though; like in Sonic Youth's songs, the noise is never gratuitous. The beauty is the beast.

Text by Mickael Mottet (Angil&The Hiddentracks, The John Venture, Jerri, Lion in Bed…)

lyrics

This he did in public for us to see. Everybody in the band is too fucked up to do the show.
Between the pain and the stars Broken hub-caps and lost glass
Trump has changed the constitution. White house white house white house run too. Let the city rise up to kill vinyl and silkscreen.
Shirts tucked in and knobheads drowsing off. The keyboard guy can hardly hear the feedback.
He's fucking falling asleep on his organ.

Yesterday's dope was not dope at all.

God, I've got a sore hip. The girls start in red patent feathers. Very 'I am in
trouble with kneecaps. We watch her false brothers and gay clones.Voting
the politic rules of life school dreadhead troopers.

White house, white house run to. Let the CD rise up. Twitter, hoaxbuster
instagram red. I'll see you, see you see you on the Kanye. You will hopefully
merge your IDs with wrong horns and freak them.Miss Ivana, Miss Melania
a couple of Miss Ivankas. The aged of the glazed press. At the throat of his
public image. Limited yet, totally screwed up. Yes sir, yes sir, mess right up!

All of us know where this is going to get to, what sort of light, what he is
trying to wreck. You will hopefully merge your IDs with wrong horns and
freak them. Treasons out of life. Everything for the rich. The U.S. are more
confusing now than anywhere you've ever been to.
I am from the Dasein city, breathe it in, and let it out.
Where are we now when our awestruck are closed ? Our heads in a foggy
nightmare of green khakis. Read Burroughs and never return.
No flow motion, no hooks. Outlooks on sonic death.

about

Lunt Riga, Latvia

Žils Deless-Vēliņš has a mystical relationship to sound and music since he was a child and his crafting of music can be compared to a construction kit game, where music as a whole is more than the sum of sounds. For him, sound has some sort of kinship with the concept of pneuma in Stoician philosophy. Sound expects to be found to become music, lying there in an intuitive background. ... more
